SKY Club Volleyball

Club Volleyball is available to 12U-18U boys and girls and provides opportunities for players to train and compete in club teams that cater to various levels of play. The club volleyball season runs from January to May with try outs running in December or early January. Throughout the season, club teams compete in tournaments which culminate in Provincial Championships in April/May.

Making a SKY Club team is a multi step process that begins in November each year

test

Step 1: Sign Up for Evaluations

We welcome any athlete to try out for a SKY Club team. You can sign up for SKY Evaluations via our website. We typically post the link in early November. There is a fee for attending the try out and Volleyball BC athlete insurance (Sportlomo) is required to attend.

Step 2: SKY Evaluations

Athletes will be evaluated by an evaluation committee put together by the SKY Board of Directors. Athletes will be evaluated in all aspects of the game independently by each member of the committee. The athletes are ranked by the committee and all rankings are compiled using third party software. Committee members are able to provide notes as well, these can include notes on attitude, coach ability, work ethic, and more. Making a team isn't just skill its everything put together, so ensure you come prepared with a great attitude and desire to listen and play hard. For fairness and transparency committee members are not allowed to evaluate their own children.

After tryouts are completed, the evaluation committee will meet and make team selections. Parent coaches are allowed to provide feedback on team selections; however, for fairness and transparency, final decisions are made by non-parent coaches and the SKY Board of Directors.

Step 3: Offer Letter

Once teams are chosen, the SKY Club Coordinator will send out offer emails. Please be patient as this may take several days to a week. This can be a time of anxiety for athletes, we understand this and do our best to expedite the process. As per Volleyball BC rules, the SKY Volleyball Club Coordinator can only contact athletes from 4pm-9pm on weekdays, and 8am-9pm on weekends.

If you receive an offer email from SKY and choose to accept it, it is a binding contract for both you and the club to commit to each other for the entirety of one season. The athlete will be given a deadline in the offer email to sign the Volleyball BC Signing Offer Form and return it to SKY. Once the offer form is signed and returned, you are officially committed to playing club volleyball at SKY for that year.

The offer email will outline practice days and times, tournament dates, fee structure and payment dates

If you choose to not sign the offer form, an offer will be made to the next athlete. This process is the main cause of delays as an unsigned offer often results in players being moved from one team to the next.  Players who have already been offered spots may then be offered spots with another team. SKY must wait for each offer letter to either expire or be responded to before taking the next step. We ask that both parents and players be patient and give us time to sort this out.

If your athlete does not receive an offer email, SKY offers other opportunities for them to play. These include SKY League, SKY Camps, and SKY Smash Ball.

Step 4: Meet Your Team

Your head coach will reach out to the team and arrange a team meeting which allows you to meet your team mates. This typically occurs in early December. This meeting is important for parents as well as it provides an opportunity for parents to meet each other. During this gathering, expectations and SKY policies will be discussed so every athlete and parent is working from the same playbook.

What Your Season Looks Like

Practices start in late early January. You will be practicing at least two times a week, each practice is 1.5 to 2 hours long. Practices are held at SKY Gateway or occasionally at a local school.

Volleyball BC hosts multiple tournaments throughout the year, these will be located in BC and locations can include the Okanagan, Vancouver, Northern BC, and Vancouver Island. Each team can expect to play in three to five tournaments.

Provincial championships are held by Volleyball BC in April or May where you will get to play teams from BC in your quest for the top spot. Want more info - Volleyball BC Provinicals

Nationals are held by Volleyball Canada in various locations throughout Canada. Not all teams at SKY will get the opportunity to participate in nationals. Want more info - Volleyball Canada Youth Nationals

Non Volleyball BC tournaments are organized by volleyball clubs throughout BC. Attending these tournaments are optional and each SKY team can choose to attend if desired.
