BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Troy has been immersed in the world of volleyball for much of his life, as a player, business owner, coach, and as Assistant Director of the AVA. In the late '80's, Troy was the starting setter over 5-seasons for the U of A Golden Bears, a 3-yr captain, 2-time MVP, and recipient of the U of A President's Trophy for Sports Leadership. Troy received his degree in Physiotherapy (Valedictorian) in 1990. He believes in the power of sport to transform lives, and his obsession lies in, "Inspiring young athletes to go beyond, on and off the court."
Troy lives in Vernon, and is married with 2 daughters who are now in university, Tanner and Reilly. He works for Performance Health, and is President of Beyond Sport Inc. which he founded in 1992. Troy sets for the Canadian Masters team, and has coached U14-17 teams over the past 5-seasons.
Paula is a dedicated driven mother of 4 with a keen business sense and exceptional organizational skills. Paula's passion for this community has led her to volunteering for many different organizations. Parent Advisory committees at 4 schools, Athletic Booster Club, Guides, Vernon Winter Games, Vernon and Area 55 Plus Games and SKY Volleyball Club.
Paula was introduced to the sport of Volleyball through her daughter's passion 6 years ago and loves the role that Sky plays in introducing sport to so many youth in our area. Being grateful for all of the coaches and volunteers that make this happen motivates Paula to lend a hand in what ever way she can.
Paula's main role is to keep Troy focused and on track.
Director of Coaching
Fane played 3-years of college volleyball in Quebec, and 4 years at McGill University.
He has coached OUC College for 3 seasons, and the B.C Provincial team for 4 seasons. Fane has a long high school coaching career, including 17 years with the Kelowna Secondary School senior boys, and 4 years with the W.L. Seaton Senior boys. Fane has been coaching in the Sky Volleyball Club for the past 4 seasons, at various age levels.
As Sky Volleyball's Director of Coaching, Fane helps select, train and oversee our excellent team of coaches at all levels of the club.
After her daughter had an awesome first season with Sky Volleyball Club in 2018, Melissa jumped at the chance to contribute to the club and became Club Coordinator in August, 2018.
Along with her role at Sky Volleyball Club, Melissa works for the Canadian Cancer Society and has over 10 years administrative and bookkeeping experience. Outside of work, Melissa is wife to, Steve, and mom to, Emily (and three fur-babies).
In her spare time Melissa plays roller derby in Armstrong, and loves hiking and camping with her family.
Director of Policy
Brett is an associate lawyer at Davidson Pringle LLP. Brett was born and raised in Lumby, B.C. completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Simon Fraser University and obtained his Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University.
After returning to Brett’s home town he became a director of the Sky Volleyball Club and an assistant coach for the youth 16 boys Sky Volleyball team. Brett is happy to be able to contribute to the Sky Volleyball Club and hopes that his particular expertise will help to make everyone’s experience with the Sky Volleyball Club great.
Aly has been involved in Sky Volleyball for 6 years and has coached a variety of teams from 13u to 15u before joining the board last year. She grew up playing volleyball and hockey in Armstrong and Vernon and has shifted her passion from playing to coaching. Aly believes in developing well rounded athletes who are exceptional people both on and off the court.
Aly is a french immersion teacher at Beairsto with a B.A. from UVic, B.Ed from UBC and is working on her M.Ed at UBC. She lives in Vernon with her child, Zag, who is a cat.
Janelle has been a part of the Sky family for 5 years, coaching teams with ages ranging from 14U to 17U. She grew up in Armstrong, playing volleyball, basketball and fast-pitch throughout elementary and high school, before moving on and playing volleyball for the UBCO Lakers while she completed her B.Sc.
Janelle coaches as a way of giving back to the fantastic coaches she had, and believes all sports are an important part of growing up. Her coaching philosophy revolves around working with individual and team goals, and not forgetting to have fun while competing.
Janelle is an Accountant in Vernon, with a B.Sc. from UBCO, and is working on her CPA designation. She lives in Vernon with Zag's cousin, Cartel, who is also a cat.
Director Special Events
Barb has been involved with Sky Volleyball Club for a number of years as a parent, a coach, and recently, as a member of the board. All four of her children have played volleyball for the club.
Barb has taught in Saanich, Japan, Victoria, and Vernon in the secondary and elementary school systems. During this time, she has coached a number of teams from grade 6 through grade 12. She has loved using sport as a platform to teach teamwork, leadership, and commitment.
Director of Equipment
Wylie has been involved with Sky Volleyball Club since 2012 when his oldest daughter starting playing volleyball.
Wylie received his coaching certification Level 1 in 2014 and has coached both U14 and U15 girls. He joined the board in 2015 and continues to follow his passion of coaching.
Wylie is married with 3 daughters, all of which are or have been part of the Sky Volleyball Club.
Alan has played volleyball all his adult life as well as club and high school volleyball as a youth. He is currently in his second year coaching in the Sky Volleyball Club and loving it.
Currently Alan is a journeyman electrician with 1&2 Electric, and lives in Cherryville on a small farm with his fiancée and step daughter.
Alan's calm nature is always a welcome personality to his athletes. He loves to watch his athletes and their passion for the sport grow over the season.
