SKY Coaches

Yes, all coaches must have a National Coaches Certificate Program (NCCP) number.

The Coaching Association of Canada uses a website called The Locker as a central location to easily access, manage, and maintain you coach training and records. You can obtain an NCCP number via their website.

Coaches require SportLoMo insurance. The SKY Director of Coaching or SKY Club Coordinator will provide instructions on this process. Fees are reimbursed by SKY. This must be completed before any onsite coaching activities begin.

There is no compensation for coaching at SKY. That being said, SKY coaches have their hotel rooms split equally amongst the team after each tournament. They receive a per diem for days spent at away tournaments. You will need to keep track of this and submit your days to the SKY Club Coordinator at the end of the season. Lastly, they are reimbursed for Volleyball BC required training and background checks.

The door is accessed via a code. Contact the SKY Director of Equipment for your code. Do not share this code with athletes or parents.

There is no limitation on when you can access the building. Please ensure the doors are locked and properly closed when you leave.

The courts at SKY Gateway are called Blue and White. The White court is on the left and has the white SKY lettering on the north end of the court. The Blue court is on the right and has the blue SKY lettering on the north end of the court.

Net heights are age group specific and gender specific.

Men - 17U - 2.43m, 16U/15U - 2.35m, 14U & Under - 2.20m

Women - 17U/16U - 2.24m, 15U - 2.20m, 14U & Under - 2.15m

To adjust the net, remove the pin and slide the net to the appropriate height, reinstall the pin. You can move the net one side at a time.

You will need to "reset" the gym. Please return training tools to their appropriate bins, TVs should be turned off, iPad back on the table and plugged in, all balls put back into bins, tables put away, and pick up any garbage. The lights will turn off automatically. Please check both doors are locked. Remember, we all share this space and a taking a little bit of time at the end of the day really helps out.

Please report all issues at SKY Gateway to the SKY Club Coordinator. Note during the winter the condensers at the gym condensate which can drip onto the courts. Please be aware of this, and wipe up the water to avoid any athlete injuries.

Practices may be held at other sites such as a school gym. As the coach, you will be responsible for setting up and tearing down the net, and leaving the space clean and tidy. Do not anticipate having volleyballs or other equipment available at these gyms. Bags with balls are located at SKY, there are six balls per bag, the bags are on the shelving. There is also a collapsible ball bin.

Schedules usually come out on the Wednesday before the tournament, so be patient. The schedule may change, so ensure to check it regularly as your game time may change.

You will need to take balls with you and there are bags with balls located at SKY Gateway. Only take one bag with six balls and return it promptly after your tournament. Do not take the practice balls. The balls in the bags may be different colours than practice balls; ensure you have the correct ball type.

SKY provides first aid kits; check your ball bag. If not in the ball bag, they are located in the racks at SKY Gateway.

The head coach has a lot of responsibilities before, during, and after the game.

• is responsible for assigning a team captain or floor captain (when the team captain isn't actively playing).
• is required to sign the score sheet before the game, indicate the captain, and fill in the team roster. SKY provides stickers of your full roster, if any athletes aren't attending that game you must strike them off the roster.
• is required to sign the score sheet after the game.
• is required to sign the rotation line up card before each set and provide that to the scorers table.

A TeamSnap "Coaches" team will be created by the SKY Club Coordinator. All coaches are added to this team, and it should be used for communication between coaches.
